Debbie Scott is Chief Executive of Tomorrow’s People, a national employment charity founded in 1984. The charity works in some of the most deprived communities around the UK, where it helps long-term unemployed people overcome the barriers that prevent them from working and find and keep a job.
The continuing growth and development of Tomorrow’s People is Debbie’s responsibility. Debbie ensures that key partners – major corporates, local employers, government agencies, local voluntary organisations and patrons -are aware of, and involved in, Tomorrow’s People’s developments.
Jeff manages operational delivery of all welfare to work programmes across Tomorrow’s People and is responsible for 14 Managers and 170 operational staff.
Jeff monitors quality and performance of operational delivery, ensuring that contracts are compliant and that targets are met or exceeded. He is the main interface with funding bodies, prime contractors and other intermediary organisations. To this end, he works closely with the Finance and Business Development teams on contract bids and advises on the operational implications of new product development.
Prior to his current appointment, Jeff was the Tomorrow’s People Operational Manager for London and Essex. Before joining the charity he worked in a number of accounting and audit roles, as well as running his own business.
Before joining Tomorrow’s People in April 2007, Abi had a consultancy role with the charity, advising on branding, communications and development issues. She is now responsible for PR and communications and engagement with the corporate sector. As a member of the Management Committee, she shares responsibility for overall management of Tomorrow’s People.
A key area of her focus is raising the profile of Tomorrow’s People to ensure that audiences engage with and are supportive of the charity’s mission and vision. The corporate engagement brief is about building relationships with the business sector, to secure funding and other in-kind support.
Abi has 20 years’ experience as a brand consultant and market researcher, working with a mix of clients including Marks & Spencer, The Bank of England, and the BBC. She was also an Account Director at communications agency Perception and prior to that at Wolff Olins. Abi is a French speaker, with a degree from Université de Lille. She is a member of Chartered Society of Designers.
Charles joined Tomorrow’s People in November 2003 to manage the HR and Payroll functions. As a member of the Trust’s Management Committee, Charles shares responsibility for overall management of Tomorrow’s People.
His main area of responsibility is to ensure that the charity best utilises and develops the knowledge, skills and experience of its staff. He advises on employment law and recommends, produces and implements company policy and procedures for all management and staff to ensure a consistent and effective approach.
Prior to joining Tomorrow’s People, Charles had 20 years experience in HR in a range of management roles in the engineering, sales and finance sectors, within businesses ranging in size from140-1500 employees.
Charles has an MBA Post Graduate Diploma and is a Member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel & Development.
Steve manages the business development activities of Tomorrow’s People and as such, he is responsible for sourcing new opportunities and replacing existing business. The production, implementation and management of the charity’s national business development plan also comes within his remit.
Steve represents Tomorrow’s People on a number of funding bodies and he is also involved in the management of external consultants, working closely with local operations’ managers to ensure that new business is delivered according to contract requirements. Steve is also instrumental in planning and implementing specific product development strategies.
Steve joined Tomorrow’s People as an Area Manager before being promoted to National Business Development Manager. His career with Tomorrow’s People followed on from 14 years in the government employment and training services sector.
Jan joined Tomorrow’s People in October 2005 and is responsible for the development and implementation of initiatives in the criminal justice and social enterprise arenas. Jan also leads the development of The Junction - a project that gives people with a history of offending an opportunity to live and work in a residential community, as their route back to reintegration into society. As a member of the Trust’s Management Committee, Jan shares responsibility for overall management of Tomorrow’s People.
A senior manager with over 28 years experience in the public and third sectors, Jan has experience of running social businesses at the highest level. She has project managed a number of capital programmes and joint ventures and has experience of raising funds from both the commercial and philanthropic sectors. In 2005, she completed a specialist MBA dissertation on the development of social enterprises in the UK and available funding models.
Nick joined Tomorrow’s People in October 2007, after a successful board level career in a number of organisations.
As the charity’s senior finance officer, Nick is responsible for initiating and managing financial strategy. He is also responsible for the development and integration of best practice in IT systems and cost and management accounting systems. Nick line manages the Finance & IT departments and ensures the Management Team and Trustees have timely and accurate information, and that financial information is disclosed in accordance with statutory regulation and best practice.
Nick is a Chartered Accountant and has worked as Finance Director of Game Plc, the SQS Group and the Royal College of Nursing. Prior to this he worked in financial systems and IT for the Prudential and spent time as a management consultant for BDO Stoy Hayward and PWC.
